How to Write the Method Section for Qualitative Research
A qualitative research paper, as opposed to quantitative, is not describing numerical data, but rather other factors. The paper might discuss research on how couples communicate or how dogs respond to different types of training. The method section of a qualitative paper describes two parts: the method by which the data was collected and the method by which the data was analyzed.
Label each part of the method section of your qualitative research paper. The first part is called the "Data Collection Method" section and the second is the "Data Analysis Method" section.
Describe the methods you use to collect data for your qualitative research paper in the first part of the methods section. Be sure to include all ways data was collected, such as surveys, observation or case studies.
Add specific information pertaining to your collection methods in the first part of the method section, such as how many participants there were, the demographic information for the participants and how information was verified.
Explain your data analysis methods in the second part of the method section of the qualitative research paper. The analysis includes how you compiled the data, organized and then used it to draw conclusions. For example, you might organize similar answers of an open ended survey together and then draw conclusions about how the demographic information of each participant could have affected those answers.
