Citing a Motion Picture DVD in APA Format

Step 1

List the name of the film's producer, followed by the name of the film's director. Follow this information with a period. The proper appearance for citing this information is as follows:

Smith, A. (Producer), & Smith, B. (Director).

Step 2

List the year of release in parentheses, followed by a period. For example:

(2010).

Step 3

List the title of the film. This should appear in parentheses. Only the first letter of the title and proper nouns should be capitalized. If there is a subtitle, the first letter of the subtitle should also be capitalized. For example:

A midsummer night's dream

Crazy genius: A look at the life of Albert Einstein

Step 4

List the type of source in brackets, followed by a period. When citing a motion picture DVD, the type of source should appear as follows:

[Motion Picture].

Step 5

If the motion picture is widely available, list the country of origin and the name of the distributor. For example:

United States: Magnolia Pictures.

If the motion picture has limited availability, instead provide the address of the distributor in parentheses. For example:

(Available from Smart Films, 80 Pine Tree Rd, Orono, ME 04427)

Step 6

Make sure that the completed citation appears as follows. Remember to italicize the title and subtitle.

Citing a Motion Picture DVD in MLA Format

Step 1

List the title of the film in italics, followed by a period. For example:

A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Step 2

List the name of the director in the following format:

Dir. Barney Smith.

Step 3

If it is relevant to your citation, list the name of performers in the following format:

Perf. Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Guy Pearce.

Step 4

List the name of the distributor, followed by a comma.

Magnolia Pictures,

Step 5

List the year of release, followed by a period.

2010.

Step 6

List the medium of publication, followed by a period.

DVD.

Step 7

Make sure that the completed citation appears as follows. Remember to italicize the title and subtitle.
